Experimental Farm Mapping Party
In conjunction with the week-long DodoLab event in Charlottetown we'll be holding a mapping party in Charlottetown with the goal of mapping the Experimental Farm and neighbouring areas.
Everyone is welcome to attend, even if you know absolutely nothing about GPS, mapping or OpenStreetMap: training and guidance available for all who need it.

- Where: Meet at the Charlottetown Farmer's Market, 100 Belvedere Avenue, at 6:00 p.m.

- RSVP: please let us know that you will join us by contacting Peter reinvented+dodomap@gmail.com.
- If you need help on the night of the party -- you get lost, you get locked out, etc. -- call Peter at 902-569-9569.
Event Schedule
- 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
- 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.: A quick introduction to OpenStreetMap, and what our task for the evening is. Split the Experimental Farm neighbourhood into area, and assign individuals/groups to each area.
- 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.: Out in the field, mapping on foot/bicycle/car. Individuals/groups can gather GPS traces, or just take notes using Walking Papers.
- 7:45 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.: Rendezvous (before 8:00 p.m. door-closing time) at Robertson Library, University of PEI. Learn how to use the OpenStreetMap editor, upload and edit map data. We'll be using a Mac lab, so there's no need to bring a laptop with you.
Things You Can Do in Advance
- Explore the existing OpenStreetMap for the area around the Experimental Farm to familiarize yourself with what's there already.
- Sign Up for a free OpenStreetMap account (will save time later on).
- If you're bringing a GPS unit, learn how to set it to gather GPX tracks in advance (it's okay if you show up not knowing how to do this, as we'll be able to help).
- If you're interested in experimenting with a more analog approach, print out a map of the area from Walking-Papers.org and bring it with you.
