Washington DC/DCGIS imports
The District of Columbia, through the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO), makes data available and open for use by the public at http://data.octo.dc.gov. The terms of use (and we have explicit permission [1]) are such that we can use the data in OpenStreetMap.
The data is attributed to "District of Columbia (DC GIS)" and the terms of use are as follows:
"The data made available here has been modified for use from its original source, which is the Government of the District of Columbia. Neither the District of Columbia Government nor the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) makes any claims as to the completeness, accuracy or content of any data contained in this application; makes any representation of any kind, including, but not limited to, warranty of the accuracy or fitness for a particular use; nor are any such warranties to be implied or inferred with respect to the information or data furnished herein. The data is subject to change as modifications and updates are complete. It is understood that the information contained in the web feed is being used at one's own risk."
Tags
Due to the number of DC datasets and in order to preserve history
DC's imported data should map the following features thusly:
- Prefix: dcgis
Generally, unless mapped otherwise, DC-GIS data tags should be prefixed with dcgis
- Lowercase
Tags should be remapped to lowercase
- Dataset
In order to preserve the origin of the data, the dataset should be specified. The naming of these datasets should map to the naming of the zipfile, ie PostOfficePt or ParkPly, the resulting key, value pair would be dc-gis:dataset=ParkPly
In an ideal world, a permalinked URL would also exist in order to facilitate re-evaluating the data
- Pubdate
DC-GIS data includes a pubdate in the supplementary XML file. This should be included in the features as dcgis:pubdate and the date should be reformatted to YYYY-MM-DD
- GIS_ID
This feature appears on DC-GIS datasets. It should be preserved as dcgis:gis_id.
- NAME
For DC GIS datasets, this feature usually maps to the common name of the feature (name). For other datasets, NAME may be used as a unique identifier. In the case of the former, NAME should remap to "name" as per common OSM data. In the case of the later, it should map to something which makes sense for the data. For example in the case of Fire Hydrants, NAME is remapped to hydrant_id.
- ADDRESS
DC data usually includes an address (though it may not be post-office compliant). Generally this should be mapped to "addr".
- SSL and AID
The AID and SSL attributes are used to correlate the data with the DC MAR (Master Address Record) and should generally be preserved.
