Use cases
Gruss, --Markus (talk) 19:34, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
- Schon wieder 3 Jahre vergangen - was ist der Sinn und was sind die use cases für diese Karte? Gruss, --Markus (talk) 10:58, 1 September 2023 (UTC)
Localization
@CuratorOfThPast: Danke schön for translating the new OHM portal! The "An diesem Tag" and "Statistiken" sections can be translated further, if you have the time: Template:OpenHistoricalMap/Statistics/de and Module:CarouselMap/config/OpenHistoricalMap. Let me know if you need any help translating those templates. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 18:05, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Minh Nguyen: Gladly did it. Is it planned translating the sections for News, Events and the remaining subpages? Or is it even practical?--CuratorOfThPast (talk) 20:37, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
- @CuratorOfThPast: We should figure out something for that, and also for the "This day in history" section. Unfortunately, without the Translate extension, we have to manage translations more manually, and every template seems to do it differently. Template:OpenHistoricalMap/Statistics has a system of template subpages, while Module:CarouselMap/config/OpenHistoricalMap puts all the translations into a single Lua module. Does the template approach makes sense for Template:OpenHistoricalMap/On this day, so that each localization can choose which world events to highlight? Or should we convert these templates into a module, so that we can do fancier things like shuffle the entries every year? We still have many missing days to fill out... – Minh Nguyễn 💬 17:47, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Minh Nguyen: I would prefer one centralized option. In my opinion the resulting broad scope is also easier to handle for example in finding suitable events. I encountered that for some dates i could rather not find a suitable event. Among other reason different subpages for the templates will probably for a longer time lead to many empty (not created) pages. I would root for the module option. But we could make an poll on the forum?--CuratorOfThPast (talk) 19:59, 7 April 2024 (UTC)

- @CuratorOfThPast: OK, as a first step, I've migrated the events section to a module powered by JSON and can do likewise for the news section. If it works out, then we can consider doing something similar for "This day in history". JSON is slightly different than Lua, but will be a bit less fragile for those who aren't used to programming. Module:CarouselMap was written before JSON was an option; we can migrate that too at some point. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 02:21, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, I've created DE:OpenHistoricalMap/Events to hold your translations of the old events. And now Module:OpenHistoricalMap/News/data.json is ready for translation. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 19:15, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
- I translated the news but the translation has still some room for improvements. But it is a start...--CuratorOfThPast (talk) 21:05, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
I started a forum thread so we can decide how to improve the "On this day" section with feedback from the broader community. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 02:38, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
