Routing has long been available on other websites, making use of OpenStreetMap data, but it was introduced onto the OpenStreetMap front page in 2015, as an interface calling these external services.

Limitations

Routing limited to simple A-B search, no via points. Settings of each router are not accessible for users.

Share result

After finding a route, your query will be visible in the browser URL, and can be shared with others. Note the routing query will be re-executed when someone visits the link. This means you may get different results for the same query based on what is in OpenStreetMap database. For example you can report a routing problem by sharing such a link, but hopefully in time the link will start to show a corrected route.
