Discuss where does one find out how to actually use OSM page here:

I am am an experienced software user. I have written mountains of it in my time. I am now retired and trying to put benefits of my knowledge into my town. All I want to do now is to work with a map of the streets in my town, to build up a work-in-progress map where I have overlaid the streets with various options for putative cycleways and foot paths so that these can be discussed with others, leading up to eventually designating some in a town plan. None of your web information caters for people in my category. All I want to do is overlay lots of trial pathways on a map that I have no interest in changing (i.e. I am not a "developer" in the sense that you use the word). This must be an incredibly common user requirement but I don't see how it can be done. All you need is a simple layers facility, as you find in software like Gimp, and the job would be easy. I'm sure I'm posting this in the wrong place, but is there a right place? I have not been able to find one. You have such a complicated structure wrapping round what is clearly good software that I despair. I tried the IRC system you have. Itis incredibly slow - several minutes for a response - that I deem that unusable. I have had to create 2 accounts, one for the software and another for the wiki, I don't think that's good either. You have left me frustrated and displeased. This is dated 23 November 2019. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jondukewiki (talkcontribs)

This does not sound like a very common task to me. I guess you want to have an online map where the users can use switches to show or hide various features. Based on this interpretation, there the following steps seem to be necessary:
  1. Retrieving the data behind OpenStreetMap.
  2. Using some rendering software to produce tiles (a.k.a. map layers) based on your preferences and individually for each layer. Maperitive is a good choice in your case.
  3. Displaying the tiles and switches as part of a webpage. Leaflet is a good choice for this task.
A good place for questions is https://help.openstreetmap.org (uses main webpage account system), but remember that most of the people are volunteers, so answers may will not come instantly. --Tigerfell This user is member of the wiki team of OSM (Let's talk) 17:32, 24 November 2019 (UTC)

list StreetComplete?

Would it be fine to add StreetComplete to main projects lists? (asking as one of the main contributors I have conflict of interest here) Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 09:42, 27 February 2023 (UTC)

list Organic Maps

I would consider listing this project - active, friendly to OSM (prominent attribution at startup), without ads and other ugly stuff as one of main projects Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 09:44, 27 February 2023 (UTC)

delist Mapnik and Tirex

I think that anyone that would plausible contribute to them does not need such page to find them (though maybe I am wrong)? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 09:45, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
