English: "Attack" by dozens of hungry European Medicinal Leeches, Hirudo medicinalis, while wading across a small weedy pond. Swimwear would not have been recommended here... Such a dense population of several hundred leeches is quite unusual in Central Europe – medical leeches have become a rare species in the wild.
Deutsch: "Angriff" von Dutzenden hungriger Medizinischer Blutegel (Hirudo medicinalis) beim Durchwaten eines krautigen Kleinweihers. Die Stiefel können sie zum Glück nicht durchbeißen – Badehosen wären hier aber nicht zu empfehlen gewesen... Eine Bestandsdichte im dreistelligen Individuenbereich wie in diesem kleinen Gewässer ist für mitteleuropäische Verhältnisse heutzutage wohl eine Ausnahme – der Medizinische Blutegel ist in freier Natur recht selten geworden. |
