licensing discussion (and else) from Featured_image_proposals
In the run up to State of the Map there was a competition looking for the most unusual thing seen out mapping. Yuichiro Nishimura won out of 19 entries with a sign giving detailed instructions for dogs at a motorway service station in Japan. Andrew (talk) 16:12, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
- A good idea, however, is the sign free? Public domain? Otherwise the photo of it is not really okay copyright-wise. Well, we may ignore that. ;-) --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 22:21, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not sure about the situation in Japan, but in Germany there is a limitation to copyright called "Panoramafreiheit" - basically, if you put your stuff out in public permanently, you can't stop people from publishing photographs. --Tordanik 08:44, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- PS: The main problem I see with it is that it doesn't really have much to do with OSM. --Tordanik 08:45, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- I found that info about Japan: Commons:Freedom_of_panorama. So, not really (except if we want to go for a non-commercial license only).
- It is related with OSM because it is the winner of the State of the Map competition. Well, quite a remote connection to OSM... --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 21:12, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
