Including the leading | in the templates is messy

For some reasons some templates include the leading | which is bad for two reasons:

• you can no longer specify additional attributes when using the template
• the table becomes more difficult to parse for bots who are unaware of what the templates expand to

However these templates are used on dozens of pages, so fixing this would require some script to update these pages ... and there are probably more important things to do.
