Workflow

Mapper to cross reference with other sources such as satellite, aerial and ground level imagery, and where appropriate ensure the traffic lights are mapped. Done on a task by task basis through MapRoulette.

Traffic Signal Configuration Data Sheets (covered by the same waiver) may be used an another reference for checking the location and other details of the traffic lights. To make it easier to look these up they have been uploaded by User:Aharvey to https://data.tianjara.net/VIC_TrafficSignalDataSheets/0000.htm (replace 0000 with the signals reference code).

These were prepared with the aid of https://github.com/andrewharvey/VIC_TrafficSignalDataSheets_ToWeb

Conflation

Existing OSM data was loaded into JOSM via the Overpass query

(highway=traffic_signals or (highway=crossing and crossing=traffic_signals)) in "VIC, AU"

JOSM Conflation plugin was configured with the DTP data as reference and OSM data as Subject.

  • Matching: Simple
  • Method: Disambiguating
  • Distance: Centroid < 50
  • Tags: none
  • Replace Geometry: no
  • Merge Tags: yes (all)

Reference only contained 738 traffic signals from the source dataset not found in OSM, these were exported from JOSM and converted to a challenge with:

mr cooperative change --out DTP_TrafficLights_MissingInOSM.json DTP_TrafficLights_MissingInOSM.osm

QA

Mappers to cross check with imagery sources available.
