Roadscape Nayarambalam: Mapping and Road Hierarchy Project will improve road data accuracy and establish road hierarchy in Nayarambalam region for better navigation and urban planning in OpenStreetMap.
Describe the local challenge your project is addressing
Our project aims to tackle the local challenge of inadequate road mapping and hierarchy, specifically focusing on the lack of accurate mapping for local roads and poor road hierarchy systems. Additionally, we aim to address the issue of small bridges not being adequately mapped.
Local Roads not Mapped: One of the key challenges faced in many areas is the absence of comprehensive and up-to-date maps for local roads. This lack of mapping can lead to various problems, such as difficulty in navigation, inefficient transportation routes, and delays in emergency response services. By addressing this challenge, our project aims to create a detailed and accurate mapping system for local roads.
Road Hierarchy not Good: Another significant challenge is the inadequate establishment of road hierarchy. Road hierarchy refers to the classification of roads based on their importance, capacity, and function. Without a well-defined hierarchy, it becomes challenging to prioritize resources for road maintenance, planning transportation networks, and ensuring smooth traffic flow. Our project aims to improve the existing road hierarchy system or establish a new one where necessary, taking into consideration factors such as traffic volume, connectivity, and usage patterns.
Small Bridges not Mapped: In many regions, small bridges, such as those on rural or less-traveled roads, are often overlooked in mapping efforts. This omission poses risks for travelers who rely on accurate navigation and can lead to inefficient routing choices. To address this issue, our project will focus on mapping and cataloging small bridges to provide accurate information about their locations, capacities, and conditions. This data will be integrated into the overall road mapping system, ensuring that travelers have access to reliable navigation information.By addressing these local challenges, our project seeks to improve transportation efficiency, enhance road safety, and enable effective urban and rural planning. Accurate road mapping, a well-defined road hierarchy, and comprehensive bridge mapping will contribute to a more connected and accessible transportation infrastructure in the local area.

Project aims to address the specific needs and aspirations of the community in Nayarambalam. By engaging with the community, the project has identified the following goals:
Accurate and Comprehensive Road Mapping: The community desires a detailed and up-to-date road mapping system that accurately represents the road network in Nayarambalam. This goal includes capturing information on road conditions, road types, intersections, and landmarks to facilitate efficient and safe transportation within the area.

The success of the Project will be determined based on the following indicators:
Accuracy and Completeness of Road Mapping: The project's success will be measured by the degree of accuracy and completeness achieved in mapping the local roads in Nayarambalam. This includes capturing all road segments, intersections, and landmarks, as well as updating the data regularly to reflect any changes or additions.
Implementation of a Well-Structured Road Hierarchy: The successful implementation of a well-defined road hierarchy, as determined through community consultation and stakeholder engagement, will indicate the project's success. This includes clear classification of roads based on their importance, capacity, and function.
Reduction in Road Accidents and Improved Safety: The project's success will be measured by a decrease in road accidents and an improvement in overall road safety conditions in Nayarambalam. This can be assessed through accident data analysis, feedback from local authorities, and community perception surveys.
Enhanced Navigation and Connectivity: The success of the project will be determined by the improved navigation experience and enhanced connectivity for residents, visitors, and emergency services. Expansion
Successful applications will show how communities intend to grow community engagement. This includes a practical approach to how many new mappers you aim to recruit and how they will be involved in community activities.
