The permanent=* tag is mainly used to describe political billboards (advertising=*) during election campaigns in France. This tag is used to indicate the non-permanence of said advertising (duration of campaign). Note that while board panels are removable, their location is permanent because their board stands are left anchored in the ground at exactly the same location, where the panels will again be installed at a later time.
How to map
The permanent=* tag complements the object already tagged with advertising=board. The only value documented is permanent=no (although there are quite a few permanent=yes values tagged, which is the default in the absence of this tag).
Common combinations
- advertising=board - To characterize the type of the advertising, in this case a board.
- message=political - Description of the type of information displayed on an element, in this case a political message.
Rendering
The OpenAdvertMap map, which displays items rated advertising=*, also offers complementary rendering of message=* but does not take election signs into account.
