The tag place:PH is used to indicate Philippine-specific place types, like district, barangay, sitio, and purok.

Usage

This tag requires the use of the normal place=* tag. It can be used along with the admin_level=* tag, which indicates the administrative level of the place. A comprehensive table of admin_level values for the Philippines can be seen at Philippines/Mapping conventions/Local government.

Subdivisions (either exclusive or not) are once proposed to be tagged as places with the place=neighbourhood tag, along with a boundary with the admin_level=11 tag. But most are mapped as landuse=residential. Exceptions apply for some subdivisions that are also a barangay itself, like Bel-air and Dasmarinas Village in Makati, UP Village in Diliman, Quezon City, and others, which are tagged as place=village instead.

Values

Commonly used
Key and value Description Examples
place:PH=municipality A municipality is a local government unit (LGU) in the Philippines, and is called a town in its archaic term. It is divided into barangays. See Municipalities_of_the_Philippines node Impasugong
node Mapun
place:PH=barangay The smallest government unit in the Philippines. They are the primary division of most cities and municipalities in the Philippines. Barangays may either be named or numbered. See Barangay node Barangay 164
node Lucap
place:PH=sitio A sitio in the Philippines is a territorial enclave that forms part of a barangay. Typically rural, a sitio's location is usually far from the center of the barangay itself and could be its own barangay if its population were high enough. Sitios are similar to puroks, but the latter are more urban and closer to the center of the barangay, especially the barangay hall. See Sitio node Torre
node Balimbing
place:PH=purok A purok is a division within a barangay in the Philippines. While not officially considered a local government unit (LGU), a purok often serves as a unit for delivering services and administration within a barangay. A purok is typically composed of twenty to fifty or more households, depending on the particular geographical location and cluster of houses. The term purok is often applied to a neighborhood (zone) within an urbanized barangay, or a portion (district) of a less densely populated, but still relatively geographically compact, barangay. This contrasts with the sitio, which is usually a cluster of households (hamlet) in a more disperse, rural barangay. See Purok node Purok 5

Uncommon values
Key and value Description
place:PH=district A large division of a city, encompassing multiple barangays. But, they do not have their own government, and are used for administrative, addressing, and geographical purposes. This place type is used in Manila (e.g. Malate, Ermita, Paco, Santa Ana, Quiapo) Pasay (e.g. San Rafael, Santa Clara, Malibay, Vitalez. The exception is the Reclamation Area, which is only composed of one barangay), Caloocan (e.g. Grace Park, Bagong Silang, ), Quezon City (e.g. Diliman, Cubao, New Manila, Novaliches, Balintawak. But several barangays are not part of any district, like Tandang Sora, Loyola Heights, Tatalon, Payatas, etc.), Iloilo City (e.g. Jaro, Mandurriao, La Paz), and Davao City (e.g. Talomo, Poblacion, Matina, Buhangin).
place:PH=poblacion The downtown center of a city or the center of a municipality where the municipal hall is located. Some poblacions are divided into small barangays, usually numbered. See Poblacion
