The key source:opening_hours should be used to describe the source of the opening_hours=* added to an OpenStreetMap element. Tagged opening hours must be verifiable and it is useful to tag the source when entering adding or updating opening hours. It is also useful to explicitely tag at what date the addded or updated opening hours were displayed using check_date:opening_hours=*. This makes it easier to find elements for periodic re-surveying. If the opening hours were found on the website of the element, opening_hours:url=* should be added or updated accordingly.

| entrance | The tagged opening hours are displayed at the entrance (on the door or on a sign at the entrance) |
| survey | The tagged opening hours were found by survey. Since this value unspecific where exactly the opening hours were found, a more precise key such as entrance or window is more useful for re-surveying. |
| website | The tagged opening hours are written on a website. Add opening_hours:url=* |
| window | The tagged opening hours are displayed in a window rather than in the entrance (this includes the service window for features that do no have an entrance, e.g. at a shop=kiosk). |
