Mapazonia is a project to map collaboratively in OpenStreetMap the  Amazon rainforest region (well known under the name Amazonia), drained by the  Amazon river and its tributaries. Using satellite imagery to improve the coverage of the map, mapping rivers geometry, transport and land use. The project began discussed at meetings of the Latin American community, and discussions occur primarily in talk-latam mailing list.

General information

The Amazon basin is the part of South America drained by the Amazon River and its tributaries. The Amazon drainage basin covers an area of about 6,915,000 km² (2,670,000 sq mi), or roughly 40 percent of the South American continent. It is for most part located in Brazil, but it is also draining waters from French Guiana, Suriname, Guyana, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia.

• Bing Aerial, use Bing Aerial Imagery Analyzer to view the acquisition date of the satellite aerial imagery
