- About
- OpenHistoricalMap's original project roadmap
- Impact on OpenStreetMap
- The most important parts of the plan were executed, including the setup of a website.
- Reason for being historic
- The plan has not been updated since 2013 and was superseded by Open Historical Map/Plans.
- Captured time
- 2013
Let's put together a high-level roadmap of where Historical OSM might go.
It's not intended to be a set of hard targets, but a loose roadmap of where we're headed.
Short Term
- Meet up and discuss, next meeting January 9th 2013 (G+ hangout)
- Progress with getting rails port going
- Progress with documenting a suggested HO getting started workflow
- Any examples we have of using the system
- Set it up: a production OHM sandbox environment based on the OSM Stack - The_Rails_Port, Mapnik, Mod_tile, and Nominatim - see: http://hosm.gwhat.org
- Sign up volunteers to import initial areas of the HOSM Planet.
- e.g. Divide up volunteers for non-geo overlapping projects - e.g. Seattle in 1878, Pompeii, Babylon, London 1854, Rome 100, Tokyo, Mumbai, Alexandria, etc.
- Resolve Open Historical Map/Historical_Time_Format conventions
- Resolve the issue of Open Historical Map/Hypothetical_vs_Verifiable features.
- Resolve Open Historical Map/LinkedOpenData tags.
- Identify and review sources of historical information
- Identify needs for how to tag & annotate sources of historical information & to trace Historical Data Provenance
- Historical imports
- Time-aware data conversion - fork Osmosis?
- Time-enabled editors
- Time-enabled geocoding - fork Nominatim?
- Time-specific styling & rendering?
- Eventually serve out historical tiles
2013 Targeted Progress
- Jan - have openhistoricalmap.org up and running, full stack - web (Rails), database (Rails), tiles (mod_tile?), geocoder
- Feb - have several interesting areas on the world populated
- Mar - inventory key software mods needed, document starting practices for source, time tagging; initial rendering plan
- Apr - get some sustaining funding grant proposals submitted
- May - start testing some time enabled tools
