Project Description
In this project, we aim to document all the developments of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Since its first developments in the 4th century, the city has now become the second largest city in Germany. Due to the location at the Elbe river near the north sea, the Hamburg Port can be considert the second largest port in all of Europe.

Main Article: OpenHistoricalMap/Projects/Hamburg/Transportation
Hamburg has a local motorway network, which dates back to the year 1937, when the Hamburg-Lübeck Reichsautobahn has been extended to the borough of Hamburg-Horn[1]
The city's public Transport consists of 6 major railways coming from Kiel, Lübeck, Berlin, Hanover, Bremen and Cuxhaven. North of Hamburg you can find regional train services called the [AKN Eisenbahn AKN], which has its own lines towards Neumünster and Elmshorn via Hanstedt-Ulzburg. The city's main station is the most frequented station in Germany.
The city has two rapid transit systems called the U-Bahn and S-Bahn. Both systems lie mostly within the city of Hamburg, however the S-Bahn offers services to the city of Stade, which is about 35 km away from the city's center.
