OpenHistoricalMap/Projects/Route66
THIS IS A DRAFT - OPEN FOR & NEEDS DISCUSSION - PLEASE JOIN IN
The goal of this project is to be able to accurately represent Route 66 as it existed at the time of each of its various alignments. The focus is first on recreating the spatial information that was available from contemporaneous sources, road maps, possibly aerials, etc. Getting more granular details, such as number of lanes, various road surface modifications, turn restrictions, traffic lights, etc., would all be awesome, but is not part of the primary goal of getting initial complete coverage of the road's basic geometry. AGREE / DISAGREE?

County Road Maps for Historic Route 66
Please add to this list of candidate maps for recreating Historic Route 66. Route 66 was established on 1926-11-11, so ideally, we might find maps from both that time and prior to that time. Finding good and true start_date
information for various segments may be very difficult. Need some thoughts on how to approach that. Identifying that information with confidence would be a herculean task... unless we are able to find a clever solution to obtaining this data.
Please note that the full history of Route 66 includes realignments in many states and we should account for those.

Next Steps / Additional Considerations
Think about how the segments mapped in this project might be reused for both prior and subsequent road systems.
