Summary
highway=residential_narrow is feature for replacement of highway=residential but for narrowed residential roads or old cities streets not larger than 3 meters maybe less (2.5M ?). For render and usage, it will be base on the highway=service tag or a little bit larger. For best comprehension in old or medieval cities the option old=yes will be add. This option is on an other proposal topic because the render is different.
Reasoning
highway=residential is a nice tag, but badly, it's really applicable on "recent" ways in residential area only. In old style place there is still narrowed streets and roads. Sure, I think about my own place, Reunion Island, but it's not the only place in that case and very old cities are currently in the same problem: it's too much confusing the maps users and in some case, totally unreadable in average map viewing.
Don't confuse your-self, in any case it is about replace the highway=residential tag, but create a new one more accessible to any users.
How to Map
Mapping is very simple, residential_narrow ways are the same as highway=service tag. old=yes tag is add if considering an old city narrowed street.
Could be light green in JOSM with thin line. |
Example & Description
Same width as highway=service roads.
Road border will be draw in half dark green.
Alternate Name Suggestions?
- highway=residential/tertiary/unclassified and narrow=yes
- highway=residential and width=narrow --Kolen 07:12, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
