Proposal talk:Archipelago

I agree with the problem of archipelago but not with the proposed solution. Two remarks:

• where do you put the point with place=archipelago? An arbitrary position in between the islands?
• is_in:archipelago can be ambiguous if several archipelago share the same name : Western Islands

I think a relation is much more suitable. You can put place=archipelago and name=archipelago_name in the relation without confusion risk.

Multipolygon Relation

I think multipolygon is not appropriate. Multipolygons are thought to form outer and inner circles. In archipelagos, there are a lot of "circles", but no outer or inner ones! I propose type=archipelago --Geogast 08:34, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Then call it an achripelago relation (Like a site relation for a campus). Lulu-Ann

Boundary

See boundary=maritime for maritime boundaries, also valid for archipelagos. --Skippern 10:39, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
