Proposal talk:Bikesharing station

You may have missed it, but how is this not a duplicate of the Tag:amenity=bicycle_rental feature?

I think we would need something like class=free for bicycle rental. In vienna all bikesharing stations are already included to OSM by the bicycle_rental tag, network citybike Vienna. Foreign people would not know that those bikes are free to rent for up to 1 hour time.--Extremecarver 09:55, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
I don't think we need a new tag just to express this notion, especially if all the stations have been tagged. We just need to amend it with another attribute that should be discussed directly in the Tag:amenity=bicycle_rental page. On top of this I see you commented the talk there, so unless you find a killer proposition to make me change my mind I'll oppose this feature as it's completly redundant with bicycle_rental. I am too for obsoleting this page. that's why I proposed class=free, because it can be added to the bicycle_rental key and wrote it to both places.--Extremecarver 11:15, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
What about using fee=yes or fee=no? --FedericoCozzi 08:43, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
If we obsolete it, fee=yes or fee=no wouldn't cut it. I.E. in Vienna taking a citybike is free of chare for the first hour, afterwards you pay (the reason is off course that those bikes should be used for transport only, and not for sightseeing or standing around)--Extremecarver 09:29, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
amenity=car_rental is a car rental store, amenity=car_sharing is a car rental station 567. I don't need the same name (which I find rather misleading), but I would like to define a store that rents bikes differently - just like with cars - than station 567 from Nextbike or whoever. +1 for the proposal Deichzerleger (talk)

How about just amenity=bikesharing? I would support that, it's simpler.--Extremecarver 09:22, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

How about amenity=bicycle_rental? A bicycle_rental is something different from the bikesharing/citybike model discussed here. Bikerentals are usually commercially run places while most bikesharing are supported by city goverment or similar and you can take a bike from station A and return it to any station on the bikesharing network. Often more than 100 depending on the city.--Extremecarver 09:22, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Well, all the exemples at amenity=bicycle_rental are, in fact, city-operated multi-station bikesharing networks. Montreal's recently inaugurated Bixi also fits the bill. Circeus 16:27, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Automated

Bicycle rental is different than bicycle sharing. Bicycle sharing usually means a membership-based system. At many systems, visitors can obtain one-day memberships, but there's no shorter membership than a day. What might be a solution to the issues posed in the above discussions is to indicate whether or not the amenity is automated, as in "automated=yes". This is the most apparent difference between bicycle rental places and bicycle sharing stations. This would include the differences between CityBike Vienna (which is free but still requires a 1€ registration fee that is credited to your next trip over 1 hour) and a retail outlet in Vienna.--Stevevance (talk) 01:59, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
