How to apply?

Hi, I have two questions:

• Should the cai_scale tag only be used for official CAI trails or can it also be used for inofficial trails in Italy?
• If the tag is missing and I don't have official CAI info available, should I just use my own impression of what the way looks like? Then it might make sense to indicate the source of the information by a suitable source tag, e.g. source:cai_scale=survey (=impression of mapper) and source:cai_scale=CAI (=information from CAI).

Hello, ideally you should add cai_scale only if you know the official evaluation that you can obtain for example from a local paper map, indication on the signpost or information you find on the local CAI website, but in case you get familiar with the cai_scale because for example you often walk on Italian paths you can go ahead and assign it on your own. There are guidelines in Italian

When a local CAI member will go through that path can validate your evaluation adding to the relation the following tags:

source=survey:CAI and survey:date=2016-01-01

Compliance with CAI classification

I noticed that document http://www.cce.cai.it/files/all_1_classificazione_percorsi_escursionistici.pdf does not include EEA:MD and EEA:E for cai_scale (and it might also allow EEA itself, without further grade indicator). Are there other CAI documents reporting such EEA difficulty levels? Also, the above document uses the spaced dash ( - ) instead of the colon (:) to introduce EEA levels. Is it an alternative convention adopted by CAI?

Not for the moment, when we initially created the page we tried also to start a conversation about possible difficulty unification also for the via_ferrata but we didn't go very far, therefore I would ignore that portion and stick for the moment only to the official values T,E,EE,EEA,EAI

Really need a compliance with CAI classification?

This proposal is really interesting in my opinion, since as already written is the scale is basically used everywhere in Italy. About the new introduced sclae (EEA:MD, EEA:E etc.): do we really need a compliance with CAI on this? I mean, they are extra useful informations that anyone using OSM maps can benefit from: I don't think it's mandatory they reflect CAI scale.

Use of the word "surely"

I believe the word "surely" conveys a certain amount of (in)certainty, but what is actually meant is "safely". This applies to all the via ferrata definitions. --Dieterdreist (talk) 12:11, 16 December 2022 (UTC)

Change proposal state from "inactive" to "in use"

Maybe the state of the proposal should be changed to "in use" instead of "inactive" and the documentation for the `cai_scale` key moved to its own wiki page (that links back to this one).
