Proposal talk:Door
RFC phase now open!
My primary intend for to propose a simple tag for describing the mechanism of the door for persons with reduced mobility. - Species 10:37, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
Someone pointed out there was a rejected proposal some time ago: entrance/door - new working draft 2.0 here.
Handles
I understand that the type of door handle (knob versus lever particularly) can significantly affect accessibility (at least for Brown Bears :-)). SK53 (talk) 17:09, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
- Seems reasonable. However, handle=wheel for a round door handle is a little vague - for example, there are straightforward door knobs (usually found on internal doors) and then there are the locking pin-tumbler door knobs. Additionally, there's lever door handles that are part of a lock or have no lock, or are a combination/keypad lock. And so on and so forth. Would suggest that handle= needs some thought and development. Also needs to be taken away from valves, as shown in the examples on the handle= OSMWiki page - valves would probably be better served by a separate tag (valve= if not already used) to indicate whether the valve is operated by a wheel, lever, etc - and also whether the valve is ball, gate, etc (if not already defined). --John Grubb (talk) 21:53, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
- handle=* only regards the handle. It can obviously be combined with other key to state if it's lockable or not. More appropriate values to doors are welcome to be added, handle=knob for instance.
- If accepted, handle=* will be adapted to better reflect usage with doors. valve=* is already took and not adapted anyway to state by which mean a valve state could be changed. Fanfouer (talk) 21:59, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

Discussion from Tagging-ML
This proposal should be bigger with more door properties specified.
- handles
- The number of wings
- opens to the left or to the right
- opens inward, outward or both
- door_closer = * - door_opener distinguish if the door opens and/or closes automatically
- …
Todos
- better specify automatic_door (opening, closing)
open questions
- Unify door=related values under the "door:*" domain? Especially change automatic_door to door:automatic?
Done
- remove dependencies of
- entrance implies door=?
- automatic_door -OK
- add opening direction: e.g. door:opening=inside/outside/both
- add handle type, e.g. door:handle=knob/lever/crash_bar/ring/hole
- add number of wings e.g. door:wings=n (defaults to 1)
- add opending direction: e.g. door:opening_direction=left/right
add the following door types (as they are already used according to taginfo?
- overhead (garage door)
- loadingdock
Missing
I missing a "Roll-up door" and a "grated door"! In German: Ich vermisse ein "Rolltor" (z.B. bei Tiefgarageneinfahrten) und ganz wichtig: "Gittertüren" (Eisengitter, Stahlgitter etc). z.B. bei Kirchen, Friedhöfen, Keller Eingängen. Gittertüren werden gebraucht beim Proposal "man_made=cellar_entrance". Danke. RoGer6 (talk) 19:08, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
