Proposal talk:Emergency service
Whats about hospital's with emergency stations? Or other stations where are multiple organisations in the same bulding? how should this be tagged? --Islanit 10:01, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
That's a good question. I haven't think about that yet. Any Ideas? How is ist solved with multiple amneties in one building?
Where is the Problem? Take two nodes and give the key and value per exemplar. Are there a Building draw it in Pieces and give the keys per Half.Hobby Navigator 20:21, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
That's a good idea.
I think this doesn't solve the problem... for now there are no indoor tags for buildings. So that you can't tag wall etc...
In my opinion it's an idea to mark different areas. And don't tag the bulding with the Operator.
Maybe in combination with a relation....--Islanit 22:24, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- I would add the option "unknown" (emergency_service=unknown) for people who can't determine the kind of the service (for whatever reason). S.A.L. 08:28, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
Different types of emergency services
I think we should differentiate between fire department, police and ambulance. For the first two there are already tags, so there is no reason to tag them with emergency service. But emergency_service=land is not clear if it is an ambulance or the headquarter of police special forces. So I think it is much to unclear. My suggestion would be to replace emergency_service=land with emergency_service=ambulance. The other values like mountain and water are clear enough (for me). --Krasnoj 00:52, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- If no one complains until 8th of february I add "emergency_service=ambulance" to the proposal page --Krasnoj 00:33, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
Rendering
I would suggest as icon for the ambulance on the land. It is important to use a symbol which is different from the hospital symbol. --Krasnoj 01:01, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
amenity
if we find that this stuff is already tagged as amenity=fire_station, amemity=police_station, etc., is there any plan to convert the existing data? Ojw 21:56, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- With the current proposal I am absolutely against this converting. Because now it is not possible to differ between fire_station, police_station and ambulance. In practical this is a big difference (if you get hurt then walk to the police is not as a good idea as walk to the ambulance or going to the fire_station when youre bike was stolen. --Krasnoj 10:42, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, i agree with Krasnoj. We would loose information. What about merging the tags together? E.g. make an amenity=emergency_service tag with several optional subtags containing the type of service (fire_station=yes, mountain_rescue=yes ...) --PVitt 11:19, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
- We should mimimise the used keys. I don't like many new *=yes keys if they are only used for one thing. access=* is used for all ways so it was a good idea, but I cannot see any usage of police=yes for some tag except the emegency_service=*. If you can tell me any other, than it is a good idea. Else I believe it it is better to use the tag values emegency_service=police_station, emegency_service=fire_station and emegency_service=ambulance is a better idea. Also it is seldom that more than one emergency service is in the same building and even if this is the case, they have seperated exits for there cars.--Krasnoj 17:20, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
- What do you think about Subtags? --Wichtel 11:32, 16January 2009 (UTC)
- I am not sure, what are you meaning with subtags. If you mean somenting like emergency_service=land; ambulance=yes as subtag I am not happy about it, as long as ambulance=yes is only be used for one "main" tag. If you mean something different, please give an example. --Krasnoj 16:51, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Put it under healthcare
As we have a new tag healthcare, I would see it there. --Lulu-Ann 14:33, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
"healthcare" means to take care of your health: prevention. Emergency begins when prevention does not effect. So it should be a additional tag. --Hotelsierra 23:10, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
More categories
Just a quick listing of some other categories, emergency services are organised very differently in different countries.
- State Emergency Services
- Mine Rescue Services
- Marine Rescue Services
- Other Rescue Services
- Refuges
- Earthquake
- Wildfire
From my time in civil defence/emergency rescue service (long time ago) i'd use the following categories:
- static full time installations
- ambulance vehicle station (ambulance vehicles and teams)
- on-duty medical unit (not clinical physician on duty)
- stations for special teams
- mine
- marine
- alpine
- rescue helicopter
- static non full time installations
- event areas
- beach
- alpine
- temporary installations
- events (sport, concert)
