Proposal talk:Isolated dwelling

• in Slovakia we have lot of these "smaler than hamlet" places mostly deeper in the mountains, I like this proposal --didoa 23:56, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

• Why aren't they hamlets? If they are two buildings or less (one) and you don't want to call it a hamlet, then you can draw the individual building.

not locality because it is neither well defined, nor for inhabited places. It is a generic placeholder, whilst isolated_dwelling is a scientific term for very small settlements. Of course you can draw single buildings and I encourage you to do so, but place is about inhabited places / settlements, so it is orthogonal to buildings and such. -- Dieterdreist 18:38, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

• Will there be an ambiguity/grey area between an "isolated dwelling" and a named building/farm/house? I was recently in France and noticed in some areas that many of the houses apparently had names (with signs in the street pointing to them). Imagine you had a house called "Green Gables" within a hamlet. You'd tag it one way (perhaps "building=yes name=Green Gables". But if it wasn't in a hamlet, you'd be tempted to tag it "location=isolated_dwelling name=Green Gables". I'm probably not making sense, but just seeing a potential issue in tagging the same concept differently depending on context. Stevage 04:36, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

why not place=farm?

• what about place=farm? I prefer place=isolated_dwelling to place=farm since it is more general. Will isolated_dwelling obsolete farm?

yes, IMHO it will obsolete place=farm, as you point out: it is more generic. For farms there is already building=farm and landuse=farm, that could be used together with place=isolated_dwelling to point out it is a farm. -- Dieterdreist 02:17, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

examples for place=isolated_dwelling that are not farms are mills, forester's houses, small isolated trainstations, restaurants. Of course most isolated dwellings are indeed farms. -- Dieterdreist 04:29, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
