Proposal talk:Operators
Generalize this?
Wouldn't it be better to make this idea more general so it can apply to all tags? We have also things like street relations which essentially do the same: move tags shared on different entities into relations. And there are many other places where this could be useful. --Eimai 19:58, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
This would definitely make sense. See http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Relations/Proposed/Collected_Ways and its discussion page for example. Augustus Kling
In the case as in India, operators feels a very good match. We have many operators of all public property. E.g. Urban Development Authority or Municipal Corporation or State Government or Public Works Departments. The issue is that even if all of this comes in the State Government in the end, local authorities differ. The offices of all these local heads need also to be identified in the region or city areas. Therefore, I also wish to add a node of the office which actually has staff actually taking complaints for all other nodes. There are also often a cases where the Urban Authority's Engineer office itself is properly of Public Works Department. thevikas (talk) 05:44, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
Category
I think this kind of relation is excactly the kind of relation meant with category in this page. --T3QU1LA 19:31, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- I respectfully disagree. Putting all post boxes in a "Post boxes" relation would be a category. Putting all post boxes operated by the Deutsche Post AG into a "Deutsche Post AG" relation along with the post offices, head offices, storage facilities etc. is not a category but a logical representation of the physical world. And as I see it doing so definitely makes sense: A lot of information is shared amongst all post boxes of one mail company, all stores of a retail chain and so on. The relation represents this information and allows it to be maintained in one single place. --Silanea 00:36, 14 August 2011 (BST)
