Proposal talk:Permanent
This can really apply to any object, most objects would have a default (like a bench might be permanent=no by default), so this tag will only be necessary when the opposite of default is the case (the permanent bench instead of a movable bench). --Skippern 22:08, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- good point, that default should be explicit on the bench page (but i'll wait for the end of vote)Sletuffe 22:37, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- a default value should be expected on all items, even signs (default to permanent), but during periods of construction work or similar, temporary signs might be put up as a non-permanent sign. Probably dusins of other examples. --Skippern 10:11, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Can someone be a little more clear on the uses for this? Last time I checked, we generally don't map features that don't have some degree of permanence. I'm also not sure that "permanent" and "is bolted to the ground" are the same - being vulnerable to theft doesn't make something "not permanent". Long-term temporary features (changes in road layout, etc.) are part of the evolving landscape, and we tend to update those as they progress. Chriscf 11:25, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- That is exactly why I suggested that we only need this when it is different than the default value. I am not too found of tagging everything, there have been a couple of suggestion that I have seen as meaningless, and this is close to one of them. I guess this tag is mostly a response to the bench proposal, where a part of the proposal was tagging if the bench was permanent or not. --Skippern 12:54, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
