Proposal talk:Pitch features
Use man_made=<name_of_feature> instead
The proposal mentions that "According to TagInfo the tag man_made=soccer_goal is currently used 16 times." That's because man_made=X where X is "the common name of this thing" is the normal way to make a new tag. It is suggested that "this is not a uniform solution since that would flood man_made with values such as soccer_goal, basketball_hoop, hockey_goal,." But this is not at all a problem: it is possibly to have any number of values for a key. We already have 109 values of man_made documented on the wiki (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Category:Tag_descriptions_for_key_%22man_made%22) and there are already over 3000 values of man_made= in use, according to taginfo (https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/man_made#values). Adding a few dozen more for various sport features and goals is not a problem. --Jeisenbe (talk) 06:00, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- +1, it seems generic for sake of being generic Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 09:50, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- --, I understand that adding these features to man_made=* would be a logical thing to do at first sight. However, how would you then tag a multi purpose goal? Or a net you do not know for which sport it is meant? Lowie 10:50, 13 January 2020 (CET)
- "how would you then tag a multi purpose goal" - can you link an example image? "Or a net you do not know for which sport it is meant" I would use fixme=* or notes in such rare case. Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 09:56, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
- by multi purpose goal I mean something of this kind: "https://www.gophersport.com/cmsstatic/g-62379-SemiPermanentGoals-wNets.jpg". Lowie 11:05, 13 January 2020 (CET)
- The picture shows a goal which combines a (non-standard-size) soccer net framework with American Football goalposts, which are just 1 vertical poles with a horizontal pole at the bottom. Well, I've never seen this before, though I'm American: these are rare. It would be fine to make up a special tag for this, or tag it as a football goalpost + a soccer goal at about the same place, because that's what it functions as. So a node or way with man_made=goal_post on a node or way, + man_made=soccer_goal on another node at the center, or an area. --Jeisenbe (talk) 03:30, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

Field events
Is there anything wrong with using leisure=pitch for jumping pits (I assume leisure=track can be used for the run-way) and throwing landing zones? ---- Kovposch (talk) 13:32, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
