Proposal talk:Pumping rig

- Just commented on the sister drilling area proposal. This one seems much more straight-forward and useful. Bear in mind though that drilling rigs are only there for as long as it takes to drill a hole or several directional holes and then move on. They are replaced by pumps/pipes/storage, "production platforms" if at sea. Hope this helps! MikeCollinson 20:50, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- The word "rig" has too many other uses see [1] and [2] --Cartinus 12:34, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
- i think you're right Cartinus. i was never really happy with it when i put it forward. how does 'pumping_rig' sound? to me it looks better, but still not great, i'm not sure why Myfanwy 00:57, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- Aren't we just trying to fit too many different things into one name. The average person won't recognise the difference between a drilling and a production platform at sea. But the difference between a drill tower, a well pump[3] and a christmas tree[4] on land is quite big. Besides that a drill tower is a transient structure, while the other two usually remain for a span of years. Also none of the land based structures can be called a "platform". --Cartinus 13:14, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
- no, this is only for one item - the pumping rig. as you state, and mike C pointed out earlier, drilling rigs are only present in a position for a short time, replaced later by pumps, for a longer time Myfanwy 21:49, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

- I'm only familiar with offshore operation, but there the term rig is only applied to drilling rigs. Production and pumping facilities are named platforms (production platform, riser platform etc.)--Magne 12:53, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
- We should remember that a 'nodding donkey' is only used on a gas/oil well that is not producing much and is reaching the end of it's life. How should self producing wells be represented? --Mungewell 22:53, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
