Don’t use industrial=depot

The tag industrial=depot is not well defined, but it can be used for places where vehicles are stored, like buses, trains or trucks. It's defined as "Place where vehicles are stored and served." This seems to be the most common usage as well.

Instead, I would suggest just using landuse=industrial + industrial=salt_depot to be specific and require 1 less tag. Or landuse=industrial + man_made=salt_depot would also work. --Jeisenbe (talk) 04:43, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

Difference from amenity=grit_bin?

There are a number of structures salt can be contained in. I mapped a salt barn recently by mapping a barn building and adding the contains=salt tag; just as you could add that tag to a grit bin, which is usually a smaller roadside feature rather than a building. The proposal here though seems to pertain to outdoor storage of salt, which seems like a landuse rather than a structure. One way to map this using existing tags could be landuse=industrial, resource=salt. This would be easily distinguish from salt extraction sites as there are other tags for this, like quarry or salt pond. The wiki for industrial= mentions the use of industrial=storage, which is apparently in use for open-air storage, but is not an officially approved/documented tag. I think landuse=industrial, industrial=storage, resource=salt does seem like a perfectly reasonable way to tag this. --Bgo eiu (talk) 21:27, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
