Proposal talk:Tag:park ride=hov
Comment 1
hov was not obvious to me, only after looking at one of the reference I found out
hov= high occupancy vehicle
Besides hov is an abbreviation that should be avoided.
Why not simply use:
carpool=yes to uniquify the tagging --Fx99 (talk) 16:47, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- I'd use carpool/hov=yes/designated for parkings which are allowed for such vehicles on arrival/departure (like workplace parkings reserved for employees arriving via carpool, or a super market parking lot for a carpool (e.g. in France, there exist some explicit "BlaBlaCar" parking lots at super market parkings). --Ibex (talk) 09:48, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
carpool or hov
I propose to extend the values for tag park_ride by either 'carpool' or the more generic 'hov'
Can you please outline the difference between carpool and hov, I can only see that they are used as synonyms. A tagging suggestion should not include "or" i.e. do it this way or the other. Personally I would suggest to use carpool and disregard hov as carpool is easier to understand, especially for non native speakers.

- 'hov' is somewhat more generic as it comprises vanpools as well. I agree that for non-native speakers it is not as well known, that's why I'm hesitating if hov or carpool would be better. Depending on the discussion, I'll drop one of them in the proposal. Thanks for your suggestion. --Ibex (talk) 09:48, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
hov or nov
hov is a quite frequent tag in connection with lane usage.
https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/hov#values
But one will not find these vehicles on the parking spaces we are discussing here.
Here you will rather find novs ( no occupancy / empty vehicles )--Fx99 (talk) 17:56, 10 July 2018 (UTC)
- That's true. That's why I would not tag carpool=* or hov=* for parkings (only if a parking is explicitly reserved for such (arriving) vehicles, like e.g. workplace parkings reserved for carpools. hov and carpool are currently are used for a few parkings as park_ride values: park_ride=carpool has 2 occurences, park_ride=hov has 6 occurences, see https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/park_ride#values
Access tags to associate
As the proposal is using generic tag amenity=parking, in addition of park_ride=* we might add access=* values to make these parkings accessibility understandable by more data consumers. In France some of us are using hov=designated, but there is room for improvement. --PanierAvide (talk) 06:33, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
- yes, access=* would be helpful. What would be the meaning of hov=designated? I'd use it to tag parkings which are reserved for carpools, e.g. at an employer site or a public transit park & ride parking like in Île de France. --Ibex (talk) 23:02, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
- The idea behind hov=designated is to say that this parking shows a sign for high-occupancy vehicle (so they are designated), but people leaving their vehicle here to take another one are allowed (qualified above as no-occupancy vehicle). So parking is dedicated to hov but other kind of vehicles can stay there. This would also handles parking not only dedicated to carpooling. --PanierAvide (talk) 06:01, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
