Definition
From the Wikipedia article for club:
- A club is an association of two or more people united by a common interest or goal. A service club, for example, exists for voluntary or charitable activities; there are clubs devoted to hobbies and sports, social activities clubs, political and religious clubs, and so forth.
Rationale
This proposal aims to provide a key for mapping the location where clubs regularly meets. The tagging logic is the same of shop=*, office=* and craft=*.

An example list of common kind of club bases:
- club=art
- club=astronomy An amateur astronomy club
- club=charity A club devoted to charitable activities: blood/tissues donation, humanitarian,..
- club=chess
- club=cinema
- club=cooking
- club=culture A cultural club that doesn't fit in other categories. Consider to use a specific new value instead of this.
- club=dance
- club=diy Do it yourself club (electronics, clothes,..)
- club=elderly A club restricted to aged people
- club=ethnic A club to promote ethnic or inter-ethnic culture.
- club=fan A fanclub
- club=fishing
- club=game A club devoted to a particular game. Consider to use a specific new value instead of this.
- club=hiking
- club=history A club devoted to (local) history and traditions
- club=hunting
- club=linux A Linux User Group (LUG)
- club=music A club where people sing or play music
- club=nature A club devoted to nature study: mushrooms, rocks, flowers, birdwatching,and so on. Consider if create specific values for each of these.

- club=sport + sport=* A club that plays a particular sport, the members may be supporters not necessarily players.

A generic first-level club tag could be used to identify a club base and provide an easy identification even if the club value is unknown, uncertain or rare.
Existing similar proposed tags
Other tags have been proposed only for a specific kind of club or using a too much generical tag. This proposal aims to provide a key that could permit unlimited list of values in the same way of shop=*, office=* and craft=* do.

- I oppose this proposal. "the location where clubs regularly meets" should be tagged as a building=*, amenity=community_centre, or whatever best physical description applies. This proposal will simply get confused with amenity=nightclub. Also, many of your examples never meet in the same spot (such as hiking, hunting, linux, openstreetmap, etc.), so where do you put the tag?--Alester 21:10, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
