The key gtfs:release_date=* is used in public transportation tagging to state the release date of the GTFS data source (feed) used for the GTFS tags on an object.

The value syntax is "year-month-day" (YYYY-MM-DD).

PTNA displays the value nicely in the column "Published" on its GTFS overview per country, e.g. Australia

Do not mix it up with check_date=*.

Two different name spaces

Currently, two different name spaces are used for GTFS, gtfs_* and gtfs:*:
