Why

Tag highway=path and access=designated were added to approved features. Rendering is likely not yet implemented. Mostly the proposed rendering rules are as was implied in the proposal, but the the paths not designated for any access method or with forbidden foot traffic are to be discussed.

How

Decision tree:

Question match Render description Render motivation Render example
Way has highway=path no stop
yes next rule
Way has horse=designated? yes Same as bridleway. render done.
no next rule
(unfinished rule): Way has bicycle=designated and foot=designated? yes A combination of current cycleway and footway styles. Render done. To be discussed.
no next rule
Way has bicycle=designated? yes Same as cycleway. Render done.
no next rule
(unfinished rule) Way has snowmobile=designated? yes Osmarender: Same as footway, but with a dark blue body. Mapnik: ??. Render done.
no next rule
(unfinished rule) Way has ski=designated? yes Osmarender: Same as footway, but with a light blue body. Mapnik: ??. Render done.
no next rule
Way has foot=designated? yes Same as footway. Render done.

(unfinished rule) Way doesn't have foot=no yes Osmarender: As footway but using a grey body instead of beige. Mapnik: like a footway but with grey background and as-thin-as-they-get light red (pink?) dashes. For Mapnik the shade of grey would match that of the grey used for highway=living_street and for Osmarender that of the grey used in the outline of highway=residential and others similar. Render done. highway=path implies allowed access for non motorized modes but no guarantees of state are given. No known designation has matched this way in the previous steps, so it's not designated for any conventional use but access is allowed, i.e. some kind of "unclassified" but usable way.
no next rule
Way has foot=no and zoom is minimum of 13? yes Dashed grey line thinner than footway, likely as thin as it gets. Something's there but it's not allowed or suitable for foot traffic (likely a ski track or snowmobile track or whatever) but it's existence is notable at the higher zoom levels. Shade of grey would match that of the grey used in the outline of highway=residential and others similar.
no Render nothing. Zoom is lower than 13 and way has foot=no and it's not designated for anything conventional so it's uninteresting for most uses.
