Proposal

concerns residential zoned parking

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Residential zoned parking is a local government practice of designating certain on-street automobile parking spaces for the exclusive use of nearby residents. It is a tool for addressing overspill parking from neighboring population centers (such as a shopping center, office building, apartment building, transit station, stadium, or central business district). Typically, residents in the zone pay a small fee to the government in exchange for a placard or sticker placed on their automobile(s) that indicates the zone designation (signified by a number or letter).

(...) It has been put into common practice throughout the United States, and has even been used in non-residential areas when a local street's parking is reserved for a business, museum or other facility.

Rationale

This tag improves maps for car drivers by guiding to a parking. It is especially helpful when visiting a foreign city and not being familiar with the boundaries (usually residents can issue a visitor pass that allows visitors to park their car in a dedicated zone).

Examples

As mentioned in the introduction, residential parking zones are widespread in the U. S.

In Germany, cities like Stuttgart, Mannheim and Hamburg make use of residential parking, for example.

a typical zone is about a square kilometer large.

Tagging

zone:parking does not match, because renderers shall not map it as huge parking spaces, also most of its attributes cannot be answered for a residential parking zone, it is more like a boundary.

parking:lane:condition=residents works, but seems painful to map for a complete area.

I propose to introduce it in form of a zone:

zone:residential_parking

Zones usually have a name and a reference number like "A107".
