Description
Isolated dwellings are the smallest kind of human settlements. They are smaller than hamlets and are formed by very few buildings. The whole settlement consists of only 1 or 2 households. If there are more than 2 households present at the site, use at least place=hamlet.
Tag values
place=isolated_dwelling
name=*
Node or area?
You can tag this as a single node or as an area. If you choose to use the area draw a way at the boundary of the inhabited space (inside and outside). This will include all buildings and outbuildings, as well as gardens, but not fields and meadows.

- I oppose this proposal. -- I don't see any sense in having an area that encompasses buildings. By approving we actually loose information. Also no separation from place=farm -- Extremecarver 14:06, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

- I approve this proposal. and fully support obsoleting place=farm with it, as farm is about usage (landuse=* and friends) -- Pecisk 08:51, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

- I oppose this proposal. why not place=hamlet + population=* ? -- Aleksandr Dezhin 16:10, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
- because an isolated dwelling is not a hamlet. Simply because of this. -- Dieterdreist 19:23, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

- I oppose this proposal. Seeing a single, large building, I cannot tell how many households are in there. I don't see the necessity of anything below hamlet. --Ipofanes 03:29, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

- I oppose this proposal. I feel this is duplicating place=hamlet, which already sort of is duplicated by place=farm. Do we really need another tag? --Skippern 18:46, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
- I like this proposal. It's good to find a more general descriptor as place=farm which is too specific. Now we can use it for any isolated house (forest gards, hotels, etc) and not only farms. Hamlet is something bigger, it's a real group of houses/settlement, not only a single familly. --Pieren 21:11, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- I approve this proposal. In the past, I don't know how to tag places with few peoples living, because place=hamlet is to vague. It could be used for place from 1 to 1000 habitant. Generally, there is only one family in my area (~ 4 peoples), and I think, this will add more indications. -- Lolo 32 13:33, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
