deprecated?

Sorry for writing in English here. Why did you set the tag to deprecated? --Dieterdreist (talk) 11:28, 28 June 2018 (UTC)

Because it is not used in Russia or any Russian-speaking countries (see overpass results, for example). tower:type is the prefered way of mapping cooling towers. We chose a single way of mapping and stick with it. --Zverik (talk) 11:40, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
Maybe you could add that it is discouraged in your area then, because the Russian tag definitions are not only for Russian speaking countries but in Russian language for the whole world (and Russian speaking mappers are mapping everywhere, not just in Russia). —Dieterdreist (talk) 13:45, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
Nope. By the wiki history, I see that before February 2018 it has been marked as erroneous even on the English page. So it has been an error for eternity before somebody decided to start an edit war. Nothing has changed. I do not intend to make this page serve as a point for this revolution. Not until we have an approved proposal. --Zverik (talk) 14:02, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
My main concern with the tagging you suggest is that man_made=tower is defined in a way that it is incompatible with cooling towers in general, at least since 2012 . --Dieterdreist (talk) 14:39, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
At this point it doesn't matter. OSM has a lot of inconsistencies in tagging, but at least in this case we can settle on a specific, single way, promoted years ago. I don't like retagging just for the sake of it. To me personally, cooling tower is a type of tower: high enough and with smoke coming from the top. --Zverik (talk) 15:17, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
I would bet it has to do with the way towers are treated in Russian, at least the autotranslated Russian version of man_made=tower made me think this. Maybe the current English version is actually describing the German concept (it was a German who added it, transfering from the German page), and not even in English this distinction is made?
With regard to inconsistencies, I agree that they are, but I believe if we accept it they will not vanish and their number will grow. If we find them, we can try to eliminate them.--Dieterdreist (talk) 15:40, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
