Proposal

Developing tags for cafés, bars, restaurants, kiosks, hotels, etc which belong to a water bottle refill network offering free bottle water refill.

Refill UK located in Bristol is a very good example of a water bottle refill program developed to combat single use plastic.

There are many other examples of similar networks, and European Water Project is seeking to develop a 100% open data and collaborative network in a similar manner.

The criteria for an establishment being tagged as part of a refill network is that it must have a visible sticker or sign mentioning that they are part of a refill network.

A restaurant where the server fills up your bottle based on his or her mood or on a discretionary basis should not be tagged as part of the refill network.

Rationale

Create descriptive tags for mentioned establishments which are willing to offer free water bottle refill as part of a network to anyone. Whether a paying customer or not.

Examples

Single refill network

Any café or bar or other participating in European Water Project refill network with a visible sticker or sign on the door of their establishment.

More than one refill network

Any café or bar or other participating in European Water Project refill network and that of Fais le Plein with a visible sticker or sign on the door of their establishment.

The following cleanup changes were made to the proposal AFTER voting was finished and AFTER email exchanges :
1) Added semicolon delimited network names instead of "multiple"; and
2) changed drinking_water:refill_scheme to drinking_water:refill:network.

  • I approve this proposal I approve this proposal. After much debate, believe the current proposal developed in wide consensus is clear and unambiguous --European water (talk) 07:46, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
  • I approve this proposal I approve this proposal. This seems a sensible proposal, which has taken account of considerable discussion. --PeterPan99 (talk) 08:37, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
  • I approve this proposal I approve this proposal. I'd prefer allowing semicolon-separated values as an optional alternative to "multiple" but do that after approval rather than having another delay. --Brian de Ford (talk) 10:55, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
"on the door of their establishment" - sign inside also should be OK Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 12:32, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
  • I approve this proposal I approve this proposal. But I agree with Brian and Mateusz regarding not using 'multiple' but instead using semicolon --Thibaultmol (talk) 10:08, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
@Thibaultmol:, @Brian de Ford:, @Mateusz Konieczny: *=multiple can possibly be used when you don't want to specify the schemes yet, as in sport=multi. You could similarly not known much about other schemes, except the one you used. --Kovposch (talk) 16:29, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
@Kovposch: That doesn't really help much I think. Because it's not tagged as either in that sitatuation. The sport=multi page also mentions that if known semi-colon seperation is best. "If one or more sports are known then list the sports (Semi-colon value separator, involving separating the items with a semicolon e.g." (from Multi page). Here it either supports a certain scheme or it doesn't. While a sportcenter might indeed have multiple sports without being able to put them all in a list because it's not well defined. --Thibaultmol (talk) 16:49, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
@Thibaultmol: That's a quick reply!... From the same page, it is considered understandable to use "multi" with other individual values when you only know one of them, as in drinking_water:refill_scheme=European Water Project;multi. It's not only because it is ill-defined from the nature of a multi-purpose venue. European water's proposal is not very unreasonable. -- Kovposch (talk) 17:10, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

  • I approve this proposal I approve this proposal. @European water: Not sure if this is the right thing or right place to do: I would additionally suggest using more existing keys like drinking_water:refill:network=* instead of drinking_water:refill_scheme=*. *:refill:*=* seems important and distinct enough to deserve a namespace, which also might be useful for further detailing or other features properties (cf bottle=*,Proposed_features/Refilling_a_purchased_drink), especially drinking_water:refill:fee=* in the future if anyone wish. --Kovposch (talk) 16:29, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
  • I abstain from voting but have comments I have comments but abstain from voting on this proposal. I share the above concerns, about the namespace and multiple values. But overall I agree and would approve. --CjMalone (talk) 20:17, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
