The Feature Page for the approved proposal Tag:shop=kiosk is located at Tag:shop=kiosk |
A Kiosk is a little shop selling cigarettes, newspapers, sweets, snacks and beverages. But this may vary in countries where alcohol may only be sold with a license, a Kiosk is no Liquor Store. It's usually open after hours and therefore sometimes provides some pieces of butter, milk and alike. A Kiosk is sometimes a little stand-alone pavilion (like in the picture) but may also be located in other buildings like stations or shopping centres.

- I would say this is a relly necessary information on a map! Should I use this too for Fuel-Shops (Tankstellenshops)..?
- Sounds good, applicable in many countries. BTW, what is a Tankstellenshop? MikeCollinson 13:22, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- Sounds good to me as well. Tankstellenshops: At least here in germany, a lot of fuel stations act like a kiosk (small supermarket) as well - and tend to have open 24/7. Basically this kind of tagging is a general problem, e.g. the same question as how to deal with parking areas below shopping malls (and we currently have no solution here as well). So IMHO let's focus on the kiosk and think about the combinations later on. Ulfl 14:44, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
- Isn't the fact it's a kiosk independent of the shop type? Wouldn't that information be better under the Building tag? Covered shopping centres often have kiosks selling a wide variety of products. --Thewinch 23:11, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
- No. This proposal aims for the shop not for the building, that's why it's proposed as shop. The tag should describe a shop, offering the listed products at extended opening hours. If shop=kiosk is inappropriate for this purpose I'm willing to learn from the natives. -- Fröstel 23:48, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
- Isn't this somewhat the same as shop=convenience? Dtucny 02:13, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Once again: I'm not native. But I considered a convenience store a little bigger than a Kiosk. Usually you can't even enter a Kiosk, it's just a counter in a window, but I've seen convenience stores that even have little shopping carts. Don't be fooled by the sentence about milk and butter, that are only one or two pieces/bottles located somewhere between the chilled beverages for emergencies, not as main business. But maybe that type of Kiosk is very German, especially my town is famous for having one every second street, which has historic reasons. -- Fröstel 09:58, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Same in Finland. There are many "kioski" which are much longer opened than other shops and supermarkets. IMHO a very iportant tag, at least much more important than chandler :) --Plenz 19:08, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- I propose this Icon: --Josias 14:47, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
