10 percent of world population is handicapped or have similar impairment. It would be nice to tag special places like cinemas, theatres , city toilets , footways (without steps) and so on with a special logo. --Metehyi 20:58, 16 August 2007 (BST)
Discussion
A good idea, but we need to discuss how best to include this information. Here are some initial thoughts:
step_free_access=yes
(if a venue is completely accessible for those wanting to avoid steps).- Detailed information about the accessibility of the insides of buildings (or tube station) is out of scope for open street map, and better provided by dedicated websites.
- An effort should be made to tag steps in parks and gardens, to aid those with accessibility/mobility problems.
- Toilets are of special importance, so disabled toilets should be tagged with an extension of the
amenity=toilets
tag (probably worth tagging male/female/baby-changing toilets too).

Hi Frankie
I agree with you about toilets, especially on the roads, for hotels and other places of tourism also it is very important.
In the airways indutry there is an internanional agreed keyword for passengers with wheelchair or physical impairments and they use simply the word wheelchair as a codeword on the tickets etc... this means that wherever the passenger is landing in the world he will get the necessay assitance etc... there is also an International pictogram which is seen everywhere in the world.
I am working on a SVG version of it.
in my view we can use it as a property of a node like :
- amenity=hotel
- wheelchair=yes
or
- amenity=cinema
- wheelchair=no
so that the corresponding logo appears near it
or for example
- highway=footway
- wheelchair=no
if there are stairs along this footway !
some more examples :
- amenity=public_building
- wheelchair=yes
route=bus
wheelchair=yes/no etc...

Hello,
what about limited wheelchair access, like cinemas where you need to ask for a key or busses where only some directions use wheelchair accessible busses? Shouldn't there be a Wheelchair=limited ?
I don't think the logo should be shaded to white.
Rest ist great! Lulu-Ann

I am afraid that there will be many pubs marked as wheelchair=yes because there are no steps, but the toiled doors are too small...
