Rationale
An artifact is an object of historical importance. It should not be confused with historical objects of artistic importance. These should be mapped with the key tourism=artwork. That's why we need a dedicated tag to describe this kind of feature.
Tagging
To add an artifact on the map, you might be interested first in indoor mapping. Then, you can put a node, a way or an area where the object is located, and set the historic=artifact tag on it. You can add also other descriptive tags, like name=*, ref=*, image=*, wikidata=*... In order to refine the kind of feature, you can set a artifact=* tag.
Applies to
Any kind of objects in a museum which isn't a piece of artwork.
Rendering
Artifacts are rendered in OpenLevelUp indoor maps.
