Kieskring (electoral circumscription) used for the elections of provinciale staten (provincial councils) in the Netherlands. The term statenkieskring is used to distinguish from the kamerkieskringen used for the elections of the Tweede Kamer (House of Representatives), see political_division=NL:kamerkieskring.
Not every provincie (province) in the Netherlands is divided in statenkieskringen. Provincies are not required to use statenkieskringen in case the entire provincie is a single kamerkieskring. They do have the authority to split kamerkieskringen into smaller statenkieskringen.
How to map
- Do not create a relation for a statenkieskring if the provincie only has a single one.
- Kieskringen are always groups of gemeenten (municipalities), so political_division=NL:statenkieskring is only used on relations, never on ways.
- Each kieskring is conventionally referred to by number, with the name of the gemeente (municipality) hosting the hoofdstembureau indicated between parentheses. This is also how the kieskring is indicated on the voting form (see image on the right). Adapt the name tags to avoid confusion between statenkieskringen and kamerkieskringen.
- ref=*: the number of the kieskring (the kieskring with the province capital traditionally gets number 1).
- admin_centre: the place where the hoofdstembureau is.
