An electromechanical interlocking is a railway system for setting points and signals. The name comes from the fact that these control elements are set electrically, but the dependencies of the control elements and routes in the interlocking itself are partly established mechanically. It is the further development of the mechanical signal box and was first used at the end of the 19th century.
