A carrel is a room that is mostly found in university or public libraries. It is a room that you can book that is like a little office, often containing a desk, an outlet, an ethernet connection, a desk lamp or other amenities for working. You'll often need to do a reservation first.

room=carrel should always be used together with indoor=room. Often times, adding access=permit is useful if the carrels need to be booked, but a reservation is usually granted. The room number/room id can be added with ref=*, which can be useful to find the room if there are multiple carrels.
