Do you want to be able to identify islands separately, in which case you will need a tag such as is place=island.

However, if all you wish to do is to get the name of the Island rendered on a map then I think Proposed_features/label might be better, since it can be used to put any text on a map, and the fore does not need specific tags such as island = , mountain = etc Dmgroom 17:08, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

• This proposal was originally intended for very small islands (similar in size to a farm or hamlet). In practice it appears to be used for islands that are much larger. Also, some renderers have implemented captions that are many times bigger than for hamlets. A few people have been using place=islet for hamlet sized islands. This seems like a better way of tagging small islands. 80n 11:29, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

natural=rocks

Over on the talk of the tag page natural=rocks i indicated that natural=rocks would fit fine with place=island, as it's a further discriptive of it. ie. a Sand island would be; place=island, natural=sand
