Talk:Central London
Mess
Central London is a mess in OSM.
- There are no tags on anything within a mile or two of the centre
- The segments which exist don't meet any of OSM's quality standards (e.g. crossroads where the two roads are marked as not joining each other, weird phantom roads across junctions, or diagonal streets in grid systems)
- The tracklogs vary so much that detecting streets is a probabalistic exercise, of searching for areas with a higher density of trackpoints than their neighbours
But the good news is:
- We have so many tracklogs there that JOSM segfaults while trying to display even a small section of them

- These comments pre-date the London mapping party. I guess there's still some messiness. But then Central London is a messy place. -- Harry Wood 14:29, 14 April 2007 (BST)
Confusion with London page
Having a central London page separate from the London page seems to cause some confusion. I've linked prominently from the top, but maybe we should rename the London page as "Greater London" or something. -- Harry Wood 14:29, 14 April 2007 (BST)
City of London
Having spent a week in the City of London around Leadenhall, I've managed to do a fair bit of mapping; but there's so many little named alleyways and twisty passages that I doubt that they'll ever all be mapped. There's also recently been some road declassifications leading to the unusual oddities of "A" roads being officially unclassified but retaining their number on the street signs.
I've also noticed that the Corporation of London, unlike many other places, uses apostrophes correctly in street name signs.
