Should the content of this page and Accessibility be merged?

Accessibility is now an "ambiguous" page and of no use to anyone. Warin61 (talk) 23:32, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Improvements

  • I think it would be beneficial to list all the mapping options for disability. Maybe browse through the help forum and find all the mapping questions people had. I found the following answer to be more clear than what is in this wiki page: https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/22487/notating-wheelchair-ramps-in-pedestrian-overpasses. More specifically, I think there is confusion with the "ramp" tag, people are tempted to use it instead of a regular highway=footway + wheelchair=yes. Moreover the highway=access_ramp adds up to the confusion

What is this page for?

Should not this page mappers information on how to map disabled features? If so it is doing a very poor job. See the page highway=* for an example of what it could do! The main helpfull things there are table with the key/values pairs, a description and a photo.

Is it to collect features .. where is this collection? No. Not here.

Is it to collect tags .. where is this collection? No. Not here.

Is it to information relevant for disabled persons? How is this OSM relevant?

Get back to the basics - First - tags that are usefull for mappers in OSM. Then mapping. Warin61 (talk) 23:21, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Taken from the Wiki page and put here because it is too meta:
It would be optimal if all relevant information on accessibility would be in the map. This is not the case. For many objects there are no tags, for others are no keys that specify the accessibility. Any wiki page that contains information for disabled users shall be added to this category. When we are finished all pages will contain such information (and the category becomes useless...! )
