Talk:Diversity
Just a quick note of a couple of things missing: the work of Manuela Schmidt (TU Wein), Yu-Wei Lin (Salford Uni, at the time), et al. which pre-dates the current earliest reference by a couple of years, and is also more rigorous in approach. If I have time I'll dig out the various refs, but noting it here in case I forget. SK53 (talk) 20:46, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks SK53! I found a couple more links from searching around with those names, but I'm not sure if I found the ones you're thinking of. Maybe "A qualitative enquiry into OpenStreetMap making" (PDF)? Brittag (talk) 21:50, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
- Yup, exactly those. The paper & the talks are probably the single most useful source for why people come & stay (or not) as mappers on OSM. Probably the work could do with being repeated on a larger scale (for instance with Missing Maps participants), but that probably requires a new research team. It may also be worth noting various 'outreach' initiatives such as welcoming new mappers: the general opinion is that these have relatively little impact on whether people become committed. Lots of refs in various mailing lists: Simon Poole & SomeoneElse are probably names worth searching for. SK53 (talk) 12:28, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
Resources: diversity-talk OpenStreetMap mailing list
There´s no such link https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/diversity-talk. Is it alive? Sergio (talk) 20:43, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
- It was alive since June 2013 when the link was posted here in August 2015... There were posted messages there, including some talks referencing other links.
- But you're right, we can no longer find it (or can no longer subscribe it) with the default link given.
- You can still find the archives here (up to 11 October 2017): https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/diversity-talk/
- This list was terminated without any announcement posted to the list itself (or the last messages were not archived before it was stopped) !

Split list of discussions into academical and other resources
I propose to split the list of links to discussions, talks etc. into at least two separate categories: Academic publications (papers, talks, …) and other resources. --Nakaner (talk) 19:57, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
"Future/Unborn generations" ( extend diversity )
We can add the "Future/Unborn generations" to the diversity list.
So we protect the environments for them.
- We don't map "endangered animals areas" / "vulnerable species" https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:natural%3Dbirds_nest#Animal_Protection

- I think that it's good to think about the future, and environment.
- For your information, “unborn” is often used when talking about abortion by anti-abortion campaigners. To them, “unborn” means someone after conception and before birth. “Right to life of the unborn” is a term that is used to ban nearly all abortions. (The Irish constitunal ban on abortion used exactly this language. When I first read the edit summary for this change, I was surprised!
Don't forget transgender
Didn't see the word transgender anywhere in the page... Jidanni (talk) 18:43, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
- Nor the word "Black" - but you will see "race". And "gender". However, this is a wiki, so you can edit the page if you think it needed. Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 19:10, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
- Ah, but "race" and "gender" usually just refer to the big ones... Jidanni (talk) 19:47, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
- I've added it here. It's a wiki, anyone can just update it! Rorym (talk) 08:11, 11 July 2020 (UTC)
