Talk:GPS tracks

Why this page

I created this page because I don't think the most important information about GPS tracks (how to record/convert/edit them) should be split up on three different pages, namely:

And ways to display GPS tracks (which I'd argue is just as important as editing) were previously only listed in Template:Navbox GNSS.

Furthermore I'd argue that Recording GPS tracks is largely about recording with a dedicated GPS unit and thus largely irrelevant to people using their smartphone. Convert GPS tracks and Edit GPS tracks are both short enough to be merged here IMO.

I think it would make sense to replace the current tab template:

Global Navigation Satellite System Tracelog
Record tracelog Convert Modify Upload Accuracy Device reviews

with

GPS tracks GPS accuracy GPS devices

on the pages Accuracy of GNSS data and GPS device reviews (as well as renaming the former back to Accuracy of GPS data ... or perhaps GPS accuracy).

Lastly I think we should try to retire Template:Navbox GNSS because it largely duplicates GPS tracks. The articles linked from the navbox should be incorporated into the articles where they make sense. E.g. adding a note about GPStogo to GPS devices, merging Why not GPX? into GPX, as well as adding the accuracy links to the accuracy article. Comparison of Android applications doesn't have to be linked IMHO because the page is largely unmaintained anyway (I have recently worked on creating up to date comparisons that are more maintainable at Android).
