Talk:Key:bar
Definition of this tag?
The first paragraph does not define the meaning of this key. Later there is this section, which suggests these characteristics:
"--> people can have drinks also during the day" "--> the cafe/restaurant stays open late into the night (also with the kitchen closed)"
I suppose "drinks" should be interpreted as "alcoholic beverages", or should it be limited to "liquor"?
But is it really a requirement that the bar is open late into the night, after the kitchen closes? --Jeisenbe (talk) 22:25, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
- I agree. Should follow/refer the definition of amenity=bar here to be consistent. I noticed recently biergarten=* (1418 instances) redirects to amenity=biergarten, and pub=* has 290 instances.
biergarten=* pub=*
Rtfm, you changed the description from "(where alcoholic beverages are served)" to "(where beverages or meals are served)." However, this does not match the definition of an amenity=bar or my understanding of the word "bar" in this context in British English: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/bar - "a place where drinks, especially alcoholic drinks, are sold and drunk". Please clarify: are there places recognized as "bars" in your country which do not serve alcoholic beverages? Has the tag bar=yes been used in such a case in Openstreetmap? --Jeisenbe (talk) 06:12, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
- Note that the original, somewhat vague definition on this page was "indicates the presence of attributes featured by a bar" in 2015 - suggesting similarity to amenity=bar - "a purpose-built commercial establishment that sells alcoholic drinks to be consumed on the premises". --Jeisenbe (talk) 06:18, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
