Inconsistency bin/waste_basket
According to this documentation a standalone waste basket is named as (amenity=)"waste_basket", but if the same feature is located at a bus stop, it should be named "bin". Is there any reason for this inconsistency? I tend to tag waste_basket=yes at a bus stop to not have different descriptions for the same feature. --HeikoE (talk) 08:42, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
- The reason is this was defined in 2013 rather than 2014 and is used more often. I'm not too happy either about it, I would be happy to see it deprecated - e.g. with a proposal.--Jojo4u (talk) 13:22, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
bin=yes
waste_basket=yes
Inconsistency with https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:highway%3Dbus_stop
The values should be yes / no / separate according to the bus stop page https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:highway%3Dbus_stop. For example:
- bin=separate: there is a waste basket within a few feet, but it is not built in to the stop pole or shelter.
And the note presently against stop=yes would make more sense to be transferred to this option. So the result becomes:
- bin=yes: there is a waste basket, which is built in to the stop pole or shelter.
- bin=no
- bin=separate: there is a waste basket within a few feet, but it is not built in to the stop pole or shelter. Additionally, it may or may not be mapped as a nearby node with amenity=waste_basket.

bin with a bench?
What is "a bench with a waste basket"? A bin connected with the bench? If they are not physically connected, I wouldn't add bin=yes/no because the fact that there is a bin next to the bench is not a property of the bench.
